Journey
1da Banton (Godson Ominibie Epelle) is a versatile Nigerian artist whose signature blend of Afrobeats, reggae, and dancehall has garnered international acclaim. Raised in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, his early life was shaped by a resilient spirit following the loss of his mother in 2008. Although he initially pursued a degree in Civil Engineering, his innate talent for music production led him to abandon formal studies and relocate to Lagos in 2014 to sign with Squareball Entertainment.
His professional journey gained momentum with "The Banton EP" (2017). The lead single, "Way Up," became a household tune across Africa through its placement on reality television. However, 1da Banton’s definitive transition to global stardom occurred in 2021 with the release of his debut studio album, Original Vibe Machine. The project featured the smash hit "No Wahala," a song that championed a carefree lifestyle and resonated deeply during the post-pandemic era.
The track’s success was amplified by a massive TikTok challenge, leading to its inclusion on U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s 2021 playlist and the soundtrack of the Emmy-winning series “Ted Lasso.” In 2022, a star-studded remix featuring Tiwa Savage and Kizz Daniel further cemented his mainstream dominance. Beyond his solo success, he is an accomplished producer and songwriter, often praised for his crisp arrangements and sounds. With subsequent projects like “1da Shall Never End” and “Walk With Me,” 1da Banton continues to bridge the gap between storytelling and rhythmic club anthems.
